About the event
Henry and Mary Todd are noted among McIntosh County, Georgia’s Free Persons of Color. Their deep roots are forgotten, not formally documented, but entrenched in the dynamic history and clash of cultures playing out between the colonizing British and Spanish Empires along the Georgia and Florida coasts. Despite their veiled circumstances, the couple would build their own financial empire, emerging after the Antebellum with notable assets and success that earned the respect and envy of all whom crossed their paths. This story and genealogical study will cast light on their unique position in plantation society, unearthing their vast family ties, and showcasing the long legacy they left behind for their racially diverse, surprising, community of family and friends. You are invited to join the Georgia Genealogical Society as we commemorate and celebrate Black History Month 2024. We’ll be taking a deep dive into the past and African American History, where every name tells a story of courage, resilience, community, and continuity.
